Buying new cards like this is never the most thrifty way to go about expanding your collection. That said, the new base set is really great, bringing back lots of classic cards, and featuring some really fresh artwork and card redesign. I bought this green deck for my sister, so I never played it myself, but she has a lot of fun with it, and it has lots of those instants that beef up your creatures for 1 turn.

I think this card game is a great gift for kids; they have to read the cards and logically work through all the different interactions of rules to play the game. -- Not the most economical, but fun
